If you’re like me, the older you get the more questions you have. You occasionally want to know if you are on the right track or if you should make certain changes in your life. You may be asking yourself, should I make a change in my career? Is this relationship going where I want it to go? What is my purpose? Our dreams can hold the answers to those questions and many more. Becoming a lucid dreamer can leave you with a sudden insight or a solution to a problem that has been plaguing you.
What is lucid dreaming?
Lucid dreaming is a dream state in which a part of your mind is conscious and aware that you are dreaming. If you are a lucid dreamer, you can literally control some elements of the dream. Instead of the dream being a totally passive experience, you might decide to explore a certain locale. Or you might choose how you will react to what someone says to you in the dream.
For example, you may choose between two paths in a lucid dream and see where the chosen path takes you. Or you may decide to visit a foreign land that you’ve never been to. Some people describe having powers in their lucid dreams. For example, you might be able to fly. When it comes to lucid dreaming, anything is possible, which is part of the allure.
If you’re interested in self-exploration, you’ll likely learn a lot about yourself through lucid dreaming. Here are some other reasons to give it a try.
Lucid dreaming can help you face your fears.
Raise your hand if you’ve heard someone say you should face your fears and phobias. Sounds good, but that’s often easier said than done. But with lucid dreaming, you don’t have to face your fears in your waking hours; you can face them in your sleep.
Say you’re afraid of heights. In a lucid dream, you can literally climb a mountain and stand there looking down. If you’re claustrophobic, in a lucid dream you can stand in a closed space so that you can see that there is nothing to fear. In doing so, you may find that your fears have lessened once you wake up.
Lucid dreaming can help you understand your nightmares.
Once you learn lucid dreaming skills, you can use them whenever you want — including when you’re having a nightmare. Lucid dreams allow you to control what happens in a dream. Since you’re aware that you are dreaming, you can decide what actions you’ll take in the dream, itself.
Nightmares often shed light on our innermost fears. Say you’re having a nightmare about someone chasing you and you’re wondering what it represents. If you know how to lucid dream, you can stop running in the dream and face the person chasing you. By asking the person who is chasing you what he or she wants, you may gain insights into what your subconscious is trying to tell you through the dream.
Lucid dreaming can help you strengthen a skill.
When it comes to learning a new skill or improving at something, we all know that practice makes perfect. But did you know that you can practice in your dreams? Through lucid dreaming, you can practice doing something that you want to excel in during your waking life. For example, if you want to learn how to be a better public speaker, you can literally give a speech to an audience of your choosing while you are lucid dreaming.
Lucid dreaming can be used as a Law of Attraction technique.
Here is one of my favorite reasons to learn lucid dreaming. One of the key tenets of the Law of Attraction is that we attract what we constantly think, believe and feel about ourselves. Or as some would put it, we attract what we are. If you want to be rich, you first have to feel rich. One way to feel rich is to be rich in a lucid dream. During a lucid dream, you could spend money in a care-free manner or give thousands to charity, showing your subconscious that you believe abundance to be your natural state. As a result, your thoughts and beliefs about money may shift in your waking life.
Lucid dreaming can help you explore your unconscious mind.
Have you ever found yourself making the same mistakes or repeating the same lessons over and over? If so, it could be because of unconscious thoughts and beliefs that you have. The problem is if the thoughts and beliefs are unconscious, you likely aren’t aware of them. If you’re not aware of something, how are you going to change it? That right there is the recipe for engaging in habitual unwanted behaviors.
Lucid dreaming can give you an opportunity to explore your unconscious thoughts. When you begin to dream, you can enter a lucid dreaming state to control your actions in the dream. You can interact with the people you are dreaming about or explore the thoughts that come up during the dream. By learning these insights, you may have a better understanding of why you do the things you do. More importantly, you may have the knowledge you need to change your behaviors and change your life.
Lucid dreaming can help you solve problems.
If something has got you stumped in your waking life, you can use a lucid dream to come up with new options. Perhaps you choose to talk to someone in a lucid dream about your problem and ask for advice. Another way to use lucid dreaming to your advantage is to explore an option. Say you’re torn between two job offers. You might use a lucid dream to see yourself working at each job, which can help you make a decision between the two.
If you’re unsure how to achieve something in your life, you might also use lucid dreaming to help you come up with a strategy for doing so. For example, one woman used lucid dreaming to come up with a strategy for meeting a romantic partner, and it worked.
