The fear of the world coming to an end has been around since the beginning of time. Now some Christian groups are predicting that the end could come in September 2015.
The Blood Moon Prophecy is a belief that a tetrad — four consecutive lunar eclipses with six full moons in between — will mark the end of the world as predicted in the Bible. The first of these lunar eclipses took place April 15, 2014. The second took place October 8, 2014. The third took place April 4, 2015. The final one is scheduled to take place September 28, 2015.
During most lunar eclipses, the moon appears red because of the sun’s positioning in relation to the moon. Many Christian scholars point to Bible passages that describe the Blood Moon. In the Book of Joel, a passage reads, “the sun will turn into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes.” In Acts, you’ll find a similar passage, “The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.”
Some Christian groups have even predicted the manner in which the world will come to an end, saying that it will happen via a meteor strike.
Fears surrounding the Blood Moon Prophecy have been so persistent in some circles that they have prompted NASA to issue a statement about it. “NASA knows of no asteroid or comet currently on a collision course with Earth, so the probability of a major collision is quite small,” a spokesman told Yahoo News.
The Blood Moon Prophecy was largely popularized by the book Four Blood Moons by John Hagee.
