While new moons are popular with manifesters looking to create something new, there’s a lot to be said for a good waning moon. When the moon is waning, or diminishing in light after the full moon, there is a great deal of magical power for moon magicians to take advantage of.
When the moon is waning, it’s a fantastic time to get rid of things in your life that no longer serve you. While this isn’t the best time to embark on a new project or focus on attracting something into your life, it is the ideal time for making room for something new by eliminating that which is merely taking up space.
Not sure what you should be getting rid of during the waning moon? Consider the following:
Excess weight
Who among us can’t stand to lose a few pounds? If you’ve been thinking about starting a new exercise routine or eating plan designed to help you lose some weight, the waning moon may be the time to put that plan into motion. Or consider stepping up your current routine. Consider cutting back on your eating during the waning moon and giving yourself a (sensible) treat during the waxing moon.
A relationship that’s weighing you down
Have you been thinking about putting the breaks on a relationship? Or maybe you’ve been feeling stuck because you’re still hung up over your ex. If your intention is to move on, use the waning moon to do some journaling or meditation to help you let go and move on. Or choose this time to actually break things off if you’re certain that’s what you want to do.
Clutter
When you look around your living space, how do you feel? Do you feel energized or weighed down? If your answer is ‘weighed down’ it’s time to change your surroundings and get rid of anything that does not give you joy. So definitely get your Marie Kondo action going and use this time to eliminate junk and clear up your space.
A lingering illness or health condition
So let me start by saying I’m no doctor and this is not medical advice. If you’re suffering with a lingering illness or health condition, stop reading this and go see your doctor! Once you do that, you can complement your doctor’s prescription with this metaphysical suggestion. Light a healing candle during the waning moon and set the intention that all that ails you be released from your physical, emotional and spiritual bodies.
A client you hate
Are you in business for yourself? If you are, you may have had the experience of attracting a client that drains the heck out of you. I know I have. I’m a firm believer that when you get rid of something, it will be replaced with something else. So cutting off a client that holds you back will create room for something else — hopefully a better client? If you want to take the chance and see, cut your losses during the waning moon.
A job
I remember when I was getting ready to quit my job to go into business for myself full time. I wasn’t sure when I’d ultimately submit that letter of resignation; I just knew that the time was getting closer. (I ultimately quit one day when my manager got on my nerves.) If you’ve ever been in that situation or you get to choose the day you give notice, try to do it during a waning moon.
A friendship that’s run its course
Most of us know that all friendships don’t last forever. Some are here for a reason, a season — we’ve got that. If you have a friend and the relationship has devolved to the point where you don’t think it’s sustainable, the waning moon is a good time to let it go.
A bad attitude
Yeah. We all go through periods when we’re in a funk and we know we’re not thinking in the best way. It’s ok to feel pissy about a situation for a little while but there comes a point where you have to hold your head up and move on to whatever comes next. You’ve got to ditch that bad attitude and keep it moving. The waning moon is a great time to set that intention and prepare to have your head on right by the time of the next new moon.
