While most people look at Jan. 1 as the day they start focusing on their goals for the new year, I like to wrap my intentions around the moon’s magic instead. That means waiting for the new moon to start new efforts because it is the ideal time for manifesting and attracting new things into one’s life. The new moon in Aquarius on Jan. 24 is an excellent time to launch something truly unique.
The last new moon was Dec. 26, so by the new year, the moon’s cycle was nearly a week old. Though the moon was still waxing, meaning it was still a good time for manifesting, who wouldn’t want the energy of an entire waxing cycle pushing their goals ahead?
The new moon in Aquarius is an ideal manifesting moon because Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, the planet of unexpected change. While Uranus can definitely bring change that is unexpected, its energy can also be used when the shift in direction is intended.
Certain types of goals in particular have an Aquarius bent. Among them:
Goals that are complete changes in direction. The energy of Aquarius is one of going left when everyone else goes right. In other words, it’s rebellious. If you’ve been thinking about doing something unusual, extraordinary or that goes against the grain, this new moon is a good time to put plans in place.
Goals that are for the good of the group. Aquarius is about strong individualism, but ironically, it’s also about making a contribution to the group. If you’re thinking about getting political or moving into some type of activism, goals related to that interest may do well during this time.
Goals that make sense to no-one but you. This is not the time to follow a stable, conventional path. Save that for the new moon in Taurus. Aquarius is about stepping out and showing your individuality. If you’ve been thinking about pursuing an unconventional career, leaving a relationship that everyone else thinks is good for you or simply quitting your job and moving cross country, this may be the time to try to make it work.
Prepare for the unexpected
I’d be remiss if I didn’t say that the unexpected could make an appearance. Again, Uranus is the planet of unexpected change so there may be some events that take place during this period that shake things up a bit.
Interestingly, during this new moon, the moon is square to Uranus (the ruling planet of Aquarius). Lisa Stardust, a New York-based astrologer, told Refinery29.com that the square makes it a good time to shake off any limitations, saying “It’s a time to break free of the constraints and rules that hold us back.”
