Lately I’ve been focusing a lot on balancing my chakras, particularly my third chakra because of an illness that is affecting organs that are governed by that chakra. One tactic that I’ve been using is color therapy.
If you’re not familiar with color therapy, also known as chromotherapy, it is a method of alternative medicine that uses light to help correct energetic imbalances in the body.
We all know that light is energy. When light interacts with matter, color is produced. Different wavelengths produce different colors. It stands to reason that blue has a different wavelength — and energetic frequency — than red. Yellow also vibrates at a different frequency than green. The idea of chromotherapy is that by using the appropriate color to balance the energy in a particular part of the body, we can contribute to the health of that part of the body.
The psychology of color
If you have doubts that colors can affect your mental and emotional body, think of how the color of a room or the color of an outfit you wear can affect your mood. When I wear red, I feel more powerful so if my confidence is waning I might wear a red top.
I’ve also been inspired in the past to paint a room in my house during times of my life that were challenging. Changing the color made me feel more energetic and optimistic about the changes that were going on in my life.
There are also some societal norms that are related to color therapy. Fore example, when we are in mourning, we tend to wear black as a way temper our moods to show respect for the dead. So if you’re looking for ways to heal your chakras, it just makes sense to add this method to your arsenal.
The chakras and color
Each of our chakras are associated with a color, and that color can be used to help balance that chakra. The colors associated with each chakra are as follows:
Root Chakra: Red
Sacral Chakra: Orange
Solar Plexus Chakra: Yellow
Heart Chakra: Green
Throat Chakra: Blue
Third Eye Chakra: Indigo
Crown Chakra: White or Violet
In order to bring balance or healing to a particular chakra, we can use the corresponding color in a conscious way to affect the energy around that chakra, and in effect, the energy surrounding the organs that are influenced by that chakra.
The organs associated with each chakra are as follows:
Root Chakra: Spine, Kidneys, Genitals, Feet, Legs, Bones, Lower Body, Anus, Urethra
Sacral Chakra: Kidneys, Sexual Organs, Pelvis, Lower Back, Reproductive System, Urinary System, Spleen, Colon, Small Intestine
Solar Plexus Chakra: Stomach, Spleen, Pancreas, Metabolism, Liver, Diaphragm
Heart Chakra: Heart, Thymus, Lungs, Rib Cage, Blood Circulation, Arms, Wrists, Hands
Throat Chakra: Throat, Neck, Jaw, Thyroid, Arms, Vocal Cords, Ears, Nose, Mouth
Third Eye Chakra: Eyes, Pituitary Gland, Autonomic Nervous System, Brain, Mind, Nose Ears
Crown Chakra: Head, Higher Mind, Pineal Gland, Upper Brain, Central Nervous System
Ways to heal your chakras using color
There are a number of ways to work with colors if you’re interested in exploring chromotherapy. This blog post is in no way saying that color therapy should be used instead of seeing a doctor. I am following the advice of my doctor and using traditional medical treatments, but in addition to them, I am incorporating alternative methods to help heal my chakras including color therapy. You can try these strategies if you are experiencing health challenges in a certain area. Or you can use them if you are working on your chakras in general such as by using Chakra Insight Cards. (See a review of them here). You can also trying using Chakra Stones. Work with the one that corresponds with the chakra you’re interested in bringing balance to.
Since I’m working on my Solar Plexus Chakra, I’m playing with the color yellow.
I’m wearing yellow clothing regularly — both outerwear and underwear.
I’m wearing yellow jewelry.
I’m eating yellow foods regularly, such as bananas, pineapples and lemons.
I’m burning yellow candles.
I’m meditating and visualizing a yellow light entering the third chakra area of my body.
I have a set of yellow sheets that I sleep in.
As you can see, the number of ways you can incorporate a color into your daily routine is only limited by your imagination.
