Empaths know what it is like to feel the emotions of others. Often an empath will notice a change in mood and realize that he or she is experiencing the sudden joy or pain of another person that has entered the room. But can empaths also detect the emotions of ghosts or spirits? The answer is yes.
Many psychics who investigate haunted houses are empaths. They can literally feel the emotions that were experienced in the place. Often mediums will feel sensations when they are communicating with people from the other side. It’s not unusual for a psychic medium to realize how a spirit died in a previous life because he or she literally could feel the pain or sensation of the death.
If you find yourself feeling emotions that you don’t understand and there are no people around you it is possible that you could be empathically picking up on the energy of the location you or in or the energy of a spirit who is nearby. Pay attention to the way you feel, and then see if your mood changes when you leave that location. Also determine whether the mood comes back when you re-enter the space.
Empath survival tips: Psychic Protection Tips for Empaths
Some empaths may have a particularly difficult time being in places where a lot of suffering has taken place such as hospitals, cemeteries and locations where a major tragedy occurred. You might find yourself feeling claustrophobic or have trouble breathing due to anxiety not related to the current situation but rather to what occurred in that location during a previous time.
If you are an empath, it can be helpful to keep a journal or a diary of when you notice mood changes. Write down the circumstances – who you were around, where you were, how long the mood change lasted. That way, you may be able to detect patterns and figure out what your empathy is trying to tell you.
So what if you don’t want to deal with the emotions of others? There are ways that you can control your empathy, or at least better manage it. Nobody wants to be controlled by their own emotions, let alone the emotions of others. It’s a good idea to learn more about your gift of empathy. You can also set the intention that the emotions you feel only be your own. You can visualize yourself protected by a bubble of light and intend that other emotions find their way to other locations outside of that sphere.
Of course you can also accept the emotions of others, take a deep breath and then release them. Tell yourself that only your emotions will remain and the emotions of others will float away like a feather.
Awareness is the most important thing. Just by being aware, you can lessen the sting of being an empath and move toward not only accepting but embracing your gift.
