Soulmate relationships can be among the most intense and fulfilling relationships that we have. Those are relationships that we have with the same souls over and over again, life after life. But if we meet one of our soulmates in this lifetime, can that soulmate fail to recognize us or refuse to engage in a relationship with us? Yes.
At the heart of all of our life experiences is free choice. While we incarnate with the goal of doing certain things in each lifetime, it is ultimately up to us to decide whether we, in fact, do what we intended. If you read books about past life stories by expert regression therapists such as Brian Weiss and Michael Newton, you’ll find stories of souls who realized that they completed a life without doing something they intended to do.
Luckily, we have the ability to reincarnate into another life where we can try again to fulfill our destinies. Some may take many lifetimes to accomplish one important task.
When it comes to soulmates, we can often recognize our soulmates, but we typically have to be open enough to do so. We can miss meeting our soulmates if we’re consumed by the past or the future and not living in the present. We can fail to recognize our soulmate if we have too many fears and unresolved emotions fighting for attention in our lives. And even if we recognize a soulmate, that soulmate may not recognize us, and may be too caught up in fears and other elements of their current life to be open to a relationship with us.
Brian Weiss, the psychiatrist known for his work in past-life regressions, speaks about this phenomenon in his book Only Love is Real: A Story of Soulmates Reunited. In the book, he explains that a soulmate may not recognize you even if you recognize him or her. Sometimes one soulmate recognizes the other first and has to be patient, and in time, the other soulmate will come around. However, Weiss points out that there could be times in which the person doesn’t recognize us in that current lifetime.
Naturally, that can be a very painful experience. If you’ve ever had what you believed to be a soulmate relationship and that person ended the relationship or wasn’t open to taking it to where you wanted it go, you likely know what that pain feels like.
However, if you look at your life as simply part of the overall journey of your soul, it can be comforting to know that there will be other lifetimes and your soulmates will come around again, so even if a soulmate connection fails to launch this time around, experts who have conducted thousands of past life regressions says that most likely the connection will take place in some life in the future.
