People wear used clothing for many reasons. One might purchase a dress in a thrift shop, receive an old pocketbook from a friend who no longer uses it or simply exchange used clothes with others as a way to save money. But can those second-hand items contain the psychic energy of their former owners? Many spiritual healers say yes.
We are always emitting energy, and our energy is infused in our clothing and the many objects around us. If you’ve ever walked into a room and felt your mood shift, you may have experienced the impact of one’s energy on his or her surroundings.
If you’ve ever touched or smelled the clothing of someone who has passed away, you might have experienced first-hand how it’s possible to feel one’s energy even if that person is no longer wearing a certain article of clothing. Some people choose to keep articles of clothing that belonged to a loved one who has passed away for that very reason. (On a similar note, jewelry such as wedding rings can take on the energy of the relationship. If you divorce, you definitely want to consider the energy of the wedding ring before deciding whether to keep it.)
You can give your clothes away but your energy’s residue could still be a part of that article of clothing.
So what does that mean if you wear someone else’s old clothes? Could their energy have an impact on your life? Some believe that if a spirit has an attachment to an article of clothing it could follow that article of clothing to the new owner. Others believe that if someone experienced heavy emotions when wearing an article of clothing such as grief or depression, the new owner could find himself or herself feeling sad for no apparent reason.
Many psychics can use a person’s article of clothing or a piece of jewelry they’ve worn to pick up on information about that person. That’s evidence right there that energy affects objects and that energy can be picked up from one person to another. If you have a particularly strong psychic sense, you may be even more sensitive to the vibrations that can be found in second-hand clothing.
This doesn’t mean that you should never buy second-hand clothes. It just means that you should cleanse the energy of anything that you buy or wear that is used. One way to do so is to burn white sage or a smudge stick and then allow the smoke to waft over the item. Other ways to cleanse energy include bathing the object in sunlight or moonlight for a number of hours and sprinkling it with water infused with sea salt. Setting an intention or saying a prayer asking that the item be cleansed of negative energy is another way to make sure you don’t become adversely impacted by the clothing.
