Every year children and fun-loving adults dress up in costumes on October 31 for Halloween. Other traditions involve telling ghost stories, visiting haunted houses and conjuring up any frightful fun that can be had. However, many people don’t realize that many of those traditions, particularly those dealing with ghosts and other things that go Boo!, are steeped in metaphysical knowledge of the holiday.
Halloween is believed to be the day of the year in which the veil between this world and other worlds is most thin. As a result, it’s the day in which it is easiest to communicate with someone from the other side.
The focus on ghosts and goblins originates from that knowledge though most people who celebrate the holiday do not realize that the traditions are steeped in spiritual beliefs.
Pagans refer to Halloween as Samhain (pronounced sow-en), and they consider it the perfect time to honor those who have come before us and have passed over to the other side. It’s a day when one might conduct a séance to glean information from someone from the other side. If you have a Ouija Board , this might be the night when you experience the greatest results. If you’ve been thinking about getting a psychic reading, this might be the day to do it.
Catholics celebrate All Saints Day on November 1. On that day, they honor any saint who didn’t have a day of his or her own. The mass that was held on that day was called Allhallowmas — referring to the mass that was held for those who were deemed ‘most hallowed.’ The night before, or the eve before Allhallowmas became known as All Hallows Eve. Today, we say Halloween.
It’s interesting to note that the focus on saints is also a focus on the those who have crossed over to the other side.
If you are sensitive to spirits or you believe that you are a medium, this might be a good day or evening to practice those skills. Even if you haven’t seen or sensed the presence of spirits before, you might look for signs from a loved one who has passed away. Ask the loved one telepathically to send you a sign and then pay attention to what happens on this day.
