Mysterious sounds, bone chilling cold spots, moving objects: These are all tell-tale signs of a haunted house. While television shows and movies glorify the idea of living in a haunted house, these invisible occupants can make you feel uneasy and even turn living in your home into a complete nightmare. How can you know if your home is haunted, and if it is, what can you do about it?
Signs Your House Is Haunted
If you believe that your home is inhabited by other-worldly beings, there are quite a few things that you should be on the lookout for.
Cold spots
Cold spots are the first sign that a spirit is present in the room. These are easy to spot. If you find that particular areas of a room are especially cold, you may just have an unwanted visitor.
Unexplainable noises
Do you hear creaking footsteps, but you are the only one home? Many occupants of haunted homes report hearing footsteps, knocking sounds, scratching and banging. Many also report hearing faint voices. None of these noises appear to have any logical explanation. If you are hearing strange sounds, you may have a spirit occupying your home. Depending on the type of noise, its intensity and frequency, they may not be too happy with your presence on the property.
Moving objects
While it is rare to see objects moving with your own two eyes, spirits have a habit of moving objects while you are not looking. You may come home and find all of your cabinet doors open, or a particular item has suddenly moved to a new location.
Disappearing objects
Ghosts love to hide things. If you find that you are consistently “losing” items, it may not be your forgetfulness. It may just be a playful ghost hiding the items. •
Nausea and general malaise
Spirits, malicious ones in particular, tend to make living beings feel uneasy or nauseous. This may be in just one particular part of the home, or it may be the entire home itself. These symptoms are generally relieved as soon as the individual leaves the home or that area.
Strange behavior from animals
Animals have a sixth sense when it comes to the paranormal. If your animals are behaving strangely – barking at nothing, growling or hair standing on end – you may have a spirit in your home.
How To Know If Your House Is Haunted
Check your home’s records
Find out who lived in your home and whether or not a death took place on the property. You may also want to find out if the home was built on Native American sacred ground. If any of these incidents have taken place on your property, you may have a real haunting on your hands.
Hire a ghost hunter
Hire a paranormal investigator to take a look at your home. They will use a variety of tools to measure the activity in your home. Not only will they set up video cameras, but they will also attempt to capture EVPs (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) as well. While there is no concrete way to know if your home is haunted, there are avenues you can take to find out whether or not there is evidence of a haunting. If you suspect that you have spirits in your home, contacting a medium or performing a cleanse can also help you rid your property of these beings.
