Do psychics really help police? In the United Kingdom, the answer is yes.
The United Kingdom is one of the most open nations in the world as far as the acceptance of psychic activity is concerned. If you’re not convinced, just take a look at new guidelines that have been released by the College of Policing, the organization that oversees the training of officers in England and Wales.
According to the new guidelines, “any information received from psychics should be evaluated in the context of the case.” However, it went on to say that such information “should never become a distraction to the overall investigation and search strategy unless it can be verified.”
Therein lies the rub. Anyone who has ever experienced a stellar psychic reading knows that there is often little evidence that something is true until after the fact. Psychic information is not based on logical data that you can see; it is based on subtleties and energy that we have little scientific means to measure. Often we see what a psychic reading told us days, months or even years after a reading.
The College of Policing guidelines recognize that police often receive tips from psychics, witches and clairvoyants who have good intentions when it comes to sharing such information. However, they also warned that some people providing psychic information could be doing so in hopes of seeking financial gain.
While psychics sometimes volunteer their services to help out in police investigations, in other cases families have been known to reach out to psychics particularly in missing persons cases in which the family wants to exhaust every possibility.
You’d be hard pressed to find a police department that advertised its use of psychics in investigations but that doesn’t mean it isn’t done. There have been whispers for years about police departments and even the FBI using psychics, remote viewers and others with paranormal abilities.
There have even been a number of movies and television shows on the topic. For example, the television show Medium starring Patricia Arquette told the story of a psychic who regularly helped the police to solve cases.
