Some things are worth a lot of money. Other things are priceless. Family heirlooms often fall in that priceless category because they have so many warm memories attached to them. However, they may also be priceless for a different reason. They often literally store the psychic energy of the loved ones who handled them before.
It’s not unusual for someone to leave jewelry to family members when they die. A ring can be passed down from generation to generation. I have a portrait that has been passed down three generations. These items were typically treasured by loved ones who went before you, and you may be planning to pass them down to someone else when you die.
But what about that psychic energy? How does it affect you? Can you learn something about it?
Empaths and Family Heirlooms
Some people are more sensitive to psychic energy than others. If you are an empath, you are more likely to feel the energy stored in family heirlooms. This might not be too pleasant. For example, if the person who owned the heirloom before you was often very sad or they experienced a tragedy, you may literally find yourself feeling sad for no apparent reason. The reason is because you may be picking up on the sad feelings stored in the heirloom.
Of course the opposite could also happen. If the person who possessed the heirloom was generally joyful, you might find that you feel better or more energetic when that heirloom is in your possession.
Pay attention to how you feel when it is around you. I mentioned that I have a piece of artwork that is a family heirloom. When I hung it on my wall, I felt safer than I had previously. I felt as if the ancestors who had the owned the painting previously were watching over me and felt that their maternal energy was flowing to me through the artwork.
Receiving Psychic Messages from Heirlooms
If you are a natural medium, you can use your psychic ability to connect with the loved ones who owned the heirloom before you. Hold it in your hands and close your eyes and set the intention to receive messages from the previous owner. You may be surprised by the thoughts or impressions that come to mind. Some people may find that doing this exercise shows them something important that happened in the life of the previous owner.
However, one of the most important things when dealing with family heirlooms is noting how they make you feel. Your intuition will tell you if an heirloom belongs with you. If an heirloom doesn’t make you feel good, or even worse, makes you feel bad, you may want to give it to someone else. Maybe they won’t have the same reaction to it.
You can also smudge the heirloom to remove negative energy from it. That way, if there are negative emotions tied to it, the smudging may actually get rid of them. If that doesn’t work and you don’t want to give it away, you can put it away where it will be safe but not in your general energy field. Also, visualize yourself inside a bubble and set the intention that the heirloom’s energy not be able to penetrate your energetic field.
